Westward Housing celebrates community spirit at summer events across the south west
Westward Housing has enjoyed a summer of community engagement, attending a range of festivals and events across the south west to celebrate diversity, inclusion and the importance of belonging.
The summer event run saw the housing association join local residents, partner organisations and community groups at Freedom Fields Festival, Exeter Respect, Torbay Pride, Bodmin Pride and Plymouth Pride.
With warm weather and vibrant atmospheres, the events provided an opportunity for Westward to engage with customers and communities, while supporting celebrations that champion equity, diversity and inclusion.
Westward colleagues spent time talking with visitors, sharing information about the organisation’s work and taking part in activities that encouraged meaningful conversations about home, community and connection.
A particular highlight was their interactive “What Does Home Mean to You?” board, which invited visitors of all ages to share their thoughts on what makes a home special.

The activity generated lots of responses and sparked conversations about the people, feelings and experiences that create a sense of belonging. Common themes included:
- Family
- Safety
- Comfort
- Peace
- Happiness
- Belonging
The responses painted a powerful picture of what home means to people across the region, reinforcing the importance of safe, supportive homes and communities where individuals can thrive.
