31 affordable homes heading to Bideford

Work has just started on Westward’s exciting new affordable homes development in Bideford which will see 31 homes built to help meet a growing local housing need.

Westward are a member of Homes for the South West and will deliver 31 properties, of which 26 of these homes will be for affordable rent and 5 homes for shared ownership (part-buy part-rent) which are due to be available in Spring 2020.

The homes will be on a brown-field site as the land on Newton Road is centrally located, beside Victoria Park and near the river front, supermarket and town centre shops.

The scheme is being built by local contractor Pearce Construction for Westward, on the site of some older Westward properties that were no longer fit for purpose. Randall Simmonds are the employers agents and the architect is RGP Architects. The homes are provided with funding assistance from Homes England.

Chief Executive of Westward, Barbara Shaw, said: “I am pleased that our mixed development of quality homes in the form of flats and family homes available for both rent and shared ownership will provide a range of options for meeting housing need locally.”

The new rental properties will consist of 24 one and two-bed flats and 2 three-bed houses. The shared ownership properties will be 5 three-bed houses.

The homes will be advertised for rent through Devon Home Choice and Westward’s shared ownership will be on the Help to Buy South West website. Shared ownership allows for eligible candidates to buy between a 25% – 75% share in the property and is a good way to get on the property ladder.

Westward’s rental properties will be advertised through https://www.devonhomechoice.com and shared ownership homes are advertised on the Help to Buy website https://www.helptobuysw.org.uk
