100% affordable housing scheme in Bristol nearing completion
Homes for the South West member Curo is nearing completion of its 100% affordable housing scheme at Whitehall Road in Bristol, on the land of the derelict White Hart Hotel.
The 14 new affordable homes are due for completion in November this year, making Curo’s Whitehall scheme the first to be delivered with grant from Bristol City Council’s £57million Affordable Housing funding budget.
BCC cabinet member for housing, Cllr Paul Smith, says: “We’ve committed £322,000 to this development and I’m delighted to see the new homes taking shape with support from the Council, especially as every one of them will go to someone who desperately needs an affordable place to live in Bristol.
“I drive past the development at Whitehall Road almost every day and I was impressed with the speed of delivery by Curo and their contractor – when the new homes are finished in November, it would have taken them 11 months from buying the site to completion. We want to see more house-building like this, delivering much-needed new affordable homes efficiently in key areas of the city and that’s what the Council’s funding budget is in place to support.”
All of the 14 homes are 3-bedroom family-sized houses and will be available through affordable rent from Curo via the Council’s HomeChoice website – www.homechoicebristol.co.uk. Anyone registered with HomeChoice can bid for social and affordable homes in Bristol.
Alongside funding from the Council, Curo have also secured £520,000 from Homes England for this scheme.
Curo Chief Executive, Victor da Cunha, says: “We’re absolutely committed to delivering new homes in Bristol and we’re always looking for partnerships with the Council and other developers/site owners to enable us to do so.
“We’re currently working on a number of developments in the city, including two projects in NW Bristol, where we’re planning to build 185 new homes with more than half as affordable housing, including 41 homes for social rent.”
At Whitehall Road, Curo is delivering the scheme with local contractor Clayewater Homes, using local materials and suppliers.
Victor says: “House-building delivers benefits beyond the addition of much-needed new homes. Our project at Whitehall Road is using local resources, supporting the local employment and economy.”
