New Westward homes for local people in the heart of rural Devon

21 households are moving into their new homes in Winkleigh, built by Lovell and provided by Westward.

Winkleigh, situated in the heart of Devon, now has a range of desirable, affordable homes as part of a wider estate of 71 homes.

The mix of one, two and three bedroom homes are made up of flats and houses; they are section 106 and so require a local connection for the 16 rental Westward properties.  Five shared ownership homes were also provided and immediately started to attract home seekers.

New resident Lyndon said,

“It was a stressful moving day but it was worth it. The house is lovely. It was exactly what I needed as I know live close to my mum who is disabled and needs care – she is just down the road. I also have downsized to one bedroom which is a lot better and easier for me. I don’t drive but I can go anywhere here with the regular bus service – I don’t feel like a hermit crab.”

The properties are being built by construction firm Lovell (part of Morgan Sindall). The Castle Green estate provides a mix of Westward flats and houses. The Westward homes offer a range of housing options including 16 homes for social rent to local people, let through Devon Home Choice. For those seeking shared ownership opportunities, this estate also offers 5 shared ownership properties with two and three bedroom capacity.

The homes meet a high building regulations standard with EPC (energy efficiency performance) rating to a standard of B across the site. All homes benefit from air source heat pumps.
