Affordable Ham Green Lane homes nearing completion

Westward Housing Group has resumed work to provide five bungalows in Ham Green Lane for local people.

This offers suitable smaller properties which local people can downsize to, supporting Plymouth City Council’s drive to free up family homes.

Local contractor Ryearch have begun the remaining work on the properties, aiming to complete by early Summer. This positive news is particularly important in light of the challenges that the covid-19 pandemic and lockdown have brought.

Ryearch are using a local supply chain, offering training to local apprentices and supporting local employment to a tune of 60 directly employed staff and engaging with a supply chain of hundreds thereby creating considerable social value. Westward has been working with them to resume construction after the previous contractor was unable to complete work.

Councillor Tudor Evans OBE, Leader of Plymouth City Council, said: “I’m delighted that work has restarted on this project, especially for the neighbours who have been looking at an empty building site for a few months.

“I can’t wait to see the finished products, which will provide the affordable homes for older residents that we promised.”

Westward’s Director of Development, Rachel Searle, said: “We are delighted to be able to restart construction on this much needed Plymouth site project. We are collaborating with Plymouth City Council to increase the choices available for local people who are most in need on the housing register and would find a bungalow better suited to their particular circumstances.”

The five bungalows (three one-bedroom and two two-bedroom) will be available for affordable rent and applicants were shortlisted through Devon Home Choice.
