LiveWest launch scheme of 66 new homes for over 55’s in Taunton

Homes for the South West member LiveWest recently completed and launched Tennyson Court, a scheme which consists of 66 new homes for people over 55 years old.

Tennyson Court has been designed with the independence of older customers in mind whilst also giving them the flexibility to add care packages when and if they are needed. The development consists of 56 apartments available for rent and 10 apartments for Shared Ownership. There is a large communal lounge and dining area, an assisted bathroom, laundry, hair salon, roof terrace and an expansive landscaped garden.

Tennyson Court provides spaces for everyone. For those that like to socialise, there is a bright and airy communal lounge with kitchen, café. For the others who prefer to be away from hustle and bustle of it all, the rooftop terrace, garden, and quiet lounge provide some tranquillity.

Local amenities are close to the development as well, with a train station 3 miles away and shops and bus stops within walking distance.

Darrell Jackson, LiveWest Head of Older People and Learning Disabilities said: ‘’Tennyson Court offers retirement living with extra care. This promotes independence for individuals who feel that they want more control of their lives. The scheme is designed to meet the needs of older people with a range of care needs. The scheme offers 24-hour support cover and tailored care packages. At the heart of Tennyson Court are a bright and airy communal lounge, cafe and reception area. It is a really vibrant place, for customers to meet and relax and gives them easy access to the rooftop terrace and gardens. There are additional facilities on site such as a hair salon, an assisted spa room and a video linked door entry system, meaning customers can truly live independently. The scheme meets the needs of older people and provides a real alternative to living in a residential home environment.’’

Somerset County Council’s Senior Commissioning Officer, Vicky Chipchase, said: “The scheme represents an outstanding opportunity to expand the supply of affordable housing and flexible care for people with support requirements. It will meet the needs of older people who would otherwise have very limited options. The scheme will also have a positive impact on the local area through the creation of jobs and community resources.”
